Who We Are

The University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus (UNMC) offers a world-class British education which is ranked among the top 100 universities worldwide.

Designed to reflect University Park Campus in Nottingham, it is a self-contained, vibrant village situated on an attractive and landscaped 125-acre site. UNMC has around 5,000 students and around 700 teaching and administrative staff from all over the world.

According to The Graduate Market in 2015, High Fliers Research, our alumni are Britain’s top choice for employers. We offer the best of UK education in an Asian setting.

History of the Malaysia Campus

Following an invitation from Najib Tun Razak, Malaysia’s then Education Minister and current Prime Minister, to establish an overseas campus, a partnership between Boustead Holdings Berhad, YTL Corporation Berhad and The University of Nottingham was formally announced in 1998. The University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus welcomed its first students in September 2000.

This development was a fundamental part of Nottingham's vision to become a truly global university for the 21st century and beyond. It was the first ever branch campus of a British University established outside of the UK and this innovative concept earned the University the prestigious Queen’s Award for Enterprise in the field of international achievement – the first time such an award had been bestowed on an academic institution.

The Malaysia Campus is a full and integral part of The University of Nottingham, UK and offers students the Nottingham experience in an Asian setting. It is part of a global institution serving an international community of students and yet is firmly rooted in all that is distinctive about British education - innovative teaching and assessment methods, independent, creative and critical thinking and an emphasis on the development of a range of inter-personal skills. Quality standards are also amongst the best in the world. At the same time, it is also a Malaysian institution and is fully integrated and engaged with the higher education community in Malaysia.

Campus and Facilities

The University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus (UNMC) is set on a beautifully landscaped 125-acre site in Semenyih, 30km south of Kuala Lumpur. Occupying a scenic position overlooking green hills, the Campus is a self-contained and self-sufficient neighbourhood village in a garden environment. It combines an excellent living environment with high quality learning and teaching facilities. The construction of the campus was jointly managed by the University of Nottingham and Boustead with funding coming from the joint venture shareholders.

Taking its design cues from University Park, Nottingham – with a signature building which echoes the Trent Building and a lake – the site has a modern, Asian feel. This architectural homage to Nottingham ensures the spirit of the University is visible to campus residents and visitors alike.

Residential accommodation is available both on Campus and in the neighbouring vicinity. The Campus has a purpose-built Mosque and a multi-faith centre, a Community Hall, a Music Room and Theatre, Jogging Tracks, Basketball Courts, a Swimming Pool, a Sports Complex, and laboratories for computing, languages, science and engineering. 24 hour high speed wired and wireless networks are provided. The learning and well-being support services are some of the best within Malaysian higher education. Transport is available from the Campus to the nearest housing estates, bus and rail stations, providing easy access to Kuala Lumpur and the surrounding region.
