What is it?
As a law student, you will study the country’s rules and system of law that keeps society in order. You will not be involved in law enforcement but the knowledge you gain from studying law will enable you to be a trusted consultant on the subject.
What will you study?
You will gain sound technical knowledge on the legal system and precedents as well as develop effective written and oral communication skills, good numerical and commercial acumen, interpersonal flair, integrity and diplomacy, as well as IT literacy. You will also be required to read widely to keep yourself updated.
Contract law; company law; copyright and patents; corporate and commercial law; criminal law; family law; law of trust; law of tort; labour law; litigation; English legal system.
Typical course duration
Law programmes in public universities are four years long. It will take at least three years to complete a law degree at a private or overseas university, but you must ensure the course and institution are recognised by the Malaysian Bar Council.
A good background in English is required.
What do graduates do?
Graduates can enter the various specialisations in law as legal executives, and advocates and solicitors. You can also pursue careers in accountancy, the government, financial institutions and the media.
