Tunku Abdul Rahman University of Management and Technology (‘TAR UMT’) is a premier educational institution with more than 50 years of excellence in providing quality and affordable education. Known then as Tunku Abdul Rahman College (‘TAR College’) since its inception in 1969, the institution has been upgraded to University College in 2013. With the upgrading, TAR UMT is able to offer Bachelor's degrees and postgraduate programmes. TAR UMT receives a subsidy/grant from the Government which enables the University College to provide affordable education to all Malaysians.

Today, TAR UMT has a thriving student population of 28,000 pursuing more than 120 programmes of studies in a wide spectrum of disciplines at four purpose-built campuses in Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Perak, Johor, Pahang and Sabah. 

TAR UMT has become well-recognised both locally and internationally among the academic fraternity and professional bodies. As an institution that is well-regarded by the industries for its high academic standards and well-trained graduates, TAR UMT counts some of the national leaders, successful entrepreneurs and professionals among its 200,000 alumni.

Holistic Education

The strength of TAR UMT's education lies in the support of three critical pillars, namely being professionally driven, entrepreneurship-focused and industry relevant which have proven to have developed highly employable graduates nationally and globally. The programmes offered to meet professional standards whereby maximum exemptions and accreditation have been granted by global and national professional bodies such as the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA), Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators (ICSA), Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM), Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW), Financial Planning Association of Malaysia (FPAM), Board of Quantity Surveyors Malaysia (BQSM), Royal Institution of Surveyors Malaysia (RISM) and Board of Valuers, Appraisers and Estate Agents  (BOVAEA). TAR UMT has also forged strong linkages with many industry leaders, so as to facilitate the latest knowledge and technology transfer to the classroom, making it industry relevant. Being entrepreneurship-focused in its teaching and learning, TAR UMT also grooms students to be creative, innovative and enterprising in their ways.      

Facilities

The sprawling Main Campus in Setapak set amidst 186 acres of land is equipped with state-of-the-art learning and recreational facilities such as the Clubhouse, an Olympic-sized swimming pool, a University College Hall with a seating capacity of 2,000, a three-storey library, science and engineering laboratories, broadcast laboratories, multimedia studio, lecture theatres, three-storey Cyber Centre, cafeteria, Sports Complex, rooftop tennis courts, gymnasium, graphic studio, Auditorium, futsal courts, on-campus student hostel, wireless internet access zones and many more. The beautifully landscaped parks and gazebos combined with the facilities and lush greeneries surrounding the campus make it an ideal place for study and relaxation. In line with our direction to become an entrepreneurial university, we have set up the TARC Incubator, which aims to promote and intensify innovation and entrepreneurship among the students, staff, alumni and the public. The Campus is strategically located and well connected to the Kuala Lumpur City Centre and students can have easy access to public transport (buses, taxis, LRT), shopping malls (Wangsa Walk,  Setapak Central, AEON, Suria KLCC, Pavillion), food, banking and health services.
