What do you do?

My daily job scope is to read, interpret and extract relationships between entities from public-listed companies’ disclosures released in the stock exchange. Other than that, I am also a trainer in the Penang branch of our office. I love helping others and enjoy sharing my knowledge with my colleagues. With that being said, I am responsible for training newcomers and to be a culture carrier in the Penang office.

How did you get here?

I am a finance graduate. I started to look for finance-related jobs after graduating from university. At that time, most of the jobs available were sales-oriented, but I wasn’t interested in doing sales. Soon after, I got to know about my current fintech (financial technology) company through a job-seeking site. I found the job scope interesting so I decided to give it a try, and I have been working here ever since. I love learning new things - I have been doing a lot of research about things I’ve read out of curiosity. This helps a lot in improving my knowledge and equipping myself to grab opportunities that are available at my workplace. Opportunities do not wait for us to be ready. We should always be prepared to accept any challenges.

Why do you do it?

By looking at daily announcements, I have a chance to be exposed to the business activities of the real world which I find very interesting. This helps me to see the bigger picture of the business world. I am also provided with a working environment that promotes learning and encourages growth. Sharing knowledge is also a big part of my job; we learn from one another. This culture is a huge motivation for me.

Who should do it?

An analyst should be equipped with critical thinking skills so that you are able to extract important information from lengthy documents. At the same time, you need to be independent enough to make the right decision about how to capture relationships precisely. As a trainer, you have to be generous in sharing knowledge and willing to offer help when people need it. In short, for everything that you learn, you teach.

Where can you work?

With the skills that I have acquired throughout my working experience, I believe that I am able to handle jobs offered by other analytic firms or due diligence firms.
