#CoursesGalore: Electrical Engineering

If you're interested in pursuing your education in Electrical Engineering, here are some essential tips about this course that you should know!

What is it?

One of the more popular engineering courses, electrical engineering is concerned with different forms of electrical charge, how they behave and how they can be adapted for use.

There is considerable overlap between electrical engineering and electronics engineering, so some universities offer a combined course of the two disciplines. Some universities also offer electronics engineering as a specialisation of electrical engineering.

What will you study?

You will study various power systems like hydro, turbine, gas, fuel cell, geothermal, solar, and wind. Electrical engineers deal with high-voltage applications, so the course will teach you about transformers and complex network functions. You will also learn about electrons, magnetic and electric fields.

Core subjects

Circuits and networks; electrical engineering systems; electromagnetic fields and waves; electrical materials and devices; energy sources and systems; high voltage engineering; measurement and instrumentation; signal processing.

Typical course duration

A degree in electrical engineering will take at least three years to complete.

Prior study and good grades in physics and mathematics is required.

What do graduates do?

Career opportunities are available in manufacturing, design, and research and development as designers, production engineers or project managers.
